National VBMA Certificate Program
WHY A NATIONAL CERTIFICATE PROGRAM?
We recognize how hard our members work and know they deserve more recognition as well as a program outlining specifically what they have accomplished as a VBMA member. We know that not all VBMA members are interested in owning a practice, but this program expands beyond that goal and works to educate students on key topics that are vital for all veterinary professionals, such as personal finance, employee management, and career preparation, among others. It is important to understand that quality programs on these topics are already being offered within our chapters; however, this new program offers our members the opportunity to receive recognition and reward for their active involvement in the VBMA at their school! A letter to practitioners will be provided on the VBMA website that members can use once this achievement is added to their resume to help explain their membership and participation in the national certificate program.
PROGRAM OUTLINE
The national VBMA has developed two levels of this program. Chapter officers will make the decision which level(s) of the program are offered at your school. The only difference in the program is the total number of hours completed--the quality and variety of the education is the same at both levels.
o THE GOLD CERTIFICATE will have 30 hours of education, including 3 lectures that are 3 hours in length.
o THE SILVER CERTIFICATE will have 15 hours of education, including 1 lecture that is 3 hours in length.
o The education in both levels will be divided between five categories:
o Your chapter officers will tell you which chapter events count towards the program.
o A limited amount of your required education can be completed in core and elective courses provided by your school. Your chapter officers will tell you which courses you can use and how many hours of education they will cover.
I DON'T WANT TO OWN A PRACTICE.
WHY SHOULD I COMPLETE THIS PROGRAM?
We know that not all of the VBMA student members are interested in owning a practice but may just be interested on increasing their business knowledge and leadership skills. We have designed this program so that more than two-thirds of the required hours are applicable to all students and less than one-third of the required hours are specifically on practice ownership. We encourage you to participate in the program whether you plan to own a practice or not.
